Initial structure: 2nd/3rd century; reconstruction: 11th-13th century (arch construction technique).

Abutments, Piers, Arches

Ten semi-circular arches and one quarter rampant arch. Span of the four main arches: ca. 12.20 m. The three main piers have rectangular stone footings with breakwaters on either side – triangular upstream and hexagonal downstream.

Superstructure: Upper parts of the main piers show slot-like hollow spaces between five parallel walls. In the spandrels over the piers to the east of the river there are vaulted spaces running transversally.

Material and Technique

Main piers and superstructure composed of mortared rubble; faced with elongated finely dressed ashlars. The ashlars of the lower parts of the abutments show greater thickness and lesser length. Springing of most arches are finely dressed voussoirs; upper parts of alternating voussoirs and brick courses.
